Work Life Balance

Hello! 👋

How are you?

September has been really tough for me- I’ve been ill for more than three weeks and it has been so bad I’ve actually had to take a week off work. It always seems to happen when you’re at your most busy, doesn’t it?! I’m fully booked at the moment- a combination of training days and consultancy work (writing lots of policies and procedures for a variety of organisations) PLUS selling the last few places on my November retreat and trying to get organised for that.

But its reminded me of something I talk about all the time: balance isn’t about keeping everything equal all the time.

We often imagine balance as this perfect set of scales- work on one side, life on the other- both sitting neatly at the same level. But the reality is that balance looks different every day, sometimes every hour.

Some seasons are full throttle, others are slower and more reflective. Some weeks you might work longer hours because a project needs it, and then (in theory!) you prioritise rest and recovery the week after.

I heard someone say recently that instead of attempting to find balance, what we need to do is harmonise instead. I really liked that- the idea that perfect balance is mostly unobtainable and in fact, we often end up feeling guilty or like we’re failing because we can’t hit that spot! But when we focus on harmonising, we focus on what feels sustainable right now, and we give ourselves permission to adjust, rest, and reset.

Here’s a quick reflection you can try this week:

  • What is feeling heavy right now?

  • Where could you lighten the load (even a little)?

  • What do you need more of this week- rest, focus, fun, connection?

Take a breath. Check in with yourself. And remember (this is as much for me as it is for you)- you’re allowed to put some things down.

If any of these questions feel a little challenging, don’t worry - I can help you figure out what that is about, and how you can use it! Give me a shout. I got you.
