Safeguarding Overview

Core Skills Training   •   Duration: 3.5 hours
Suitable for: All Staff

The aim of the course is to help staff understand and gain confidence around their roles and responsibilities in safeguarding. The course serves as an introduction for new staff or a refresher for staff who have received safeguarding training previously and draws upon guidance from legislation, policies and procedures and best practice. The course is highly interactive and practical, to enable staff to apply what they learn to their own work setting.  

What You’ll Learn

  • Identify forms of abuse, recognising situations to be a safeguarding concern 

  • Sensitively respond to a disclosure or concern 

  • Record and report concerns confidently, using the organisation’s internal reporting process.  

Course Content

  • Legislation guidance: 6 principles 

  • Abuse and neglect refresher 

  • Organisational policies, procedures and best practice

  • Review of staff responsibilities: recognising, responding, recording, reporting and referring to external agencies 


What to expect:

The facilitator will employ a range of teaching methods including direct input, small and large group activities, discussions, use of case study material and PowerPoint slides.
