Safeguarding for Lead Officers & Managers

This interactive course has been designed for Managers who are responsible for safeguarding within the organisation. The session aims to help Managers consider how to create a culture of safeguarding across their teams and how to raise confidence so that best practice prevails. 

The session is designed to be highly practical, offering Managers a comprehensive update on legislation and good practice, whilst providing an opportunity to reflect upon what is working well within their team and what they can do to drive improvements.

Learning Outcomes

  • Familiarise themselves with updates on relevant legislation and statutory guidance

  • Gain clarity on their role and responsibilities as a Manager in establishing a culture of safeguarding in their teams, including:

    • Ensuring the policy and procedure is a live, working document for their teams

    • Managing performance with safeguarding in mind

    • Creating inductions with a safeguarding focus

  • Describe best practice when working with complex cases, including when and how to challenge appropriately, following up referrals, and knowing when to contact the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) or Person in a Position of Trust (PIPOT) Lead.

  • Create an action plan.

  • Safeguarding fundamentals: legislative overview, what is and what isn’t safeguarding, safeguarding principles, 5 Rs process; duty of care vs safeguarding

  • Understanding thresholds: when a concern becomes a safeguarding referral

  • Building, maintaining and improving the culture of safeguarding within their team

  • Extended case study

  • Workbook and handout
